About Trusted Mortgage Professional Accreditation
Overview

Mortgage lending is a complex financial transaction that is all about Trust!

If a business has been accredited by Comergence, it means Comergence Compliance Monitoring, LLC has determined that the business meets trusted member accreditation standards. The standards are rigorous and include identity verification, an onsite inspection, a comprehensive background check, licensing compliance verification, FACT Act identity theft red flag rules compliance and a commitment to ongoing monitoring.

Businesses that meet compliance standards and complete all application procedures will be accredited by Comergence. Comergence accredited businesses pay a fee for accreditation review/monitoring and for support of Comergence services to the public.

Comergence Accredited Businesses may identify themselves as Trusted Members online, in print and broadcast advertising (newspapers, periodicals, billboards, posters, telephone, TV and radio ads, flyers and direct mail), in yellow page or other directories, on business cards, and on stationery, invoices, facsimile cover sheets and other business documents while they are actively monitored by Comergence and continue to meet the Trusted Member criteria.

Consumer Awareness

What the Trusted Member Seal means

The Trusted Mortgage Professional Seal is a visible, real-time assurance of trust letting consumers know in an instant that the business is one of the most trusted providers in the industry. It means consumers can verify the business with Comergence and determine with confidence the business is in compliance with laws that protect the consumer in a mortgage transaction. A consumer is less likely to be a victim of identity theft or mortgage fraud when transacting business with trusted members.

What the Trusted Member Seal tells you

Once a business has obtained trusted member accredited status, Comergence supplies the business with the Trusted Mortgage Professional Seal for use. An online seal is also provided to upload onto their website. By clicking on the Comergence Trusted Member Seal, visitors will get real-time confirmation of the trusted member status and a current report of the member.

Comergence accreditation does not mean that the business’ products or services have been evaluated or endorsed by Comergence, or that Comergence has made a determination as to the business’ competency in performing services. Businesses are under no obligation to seek Comergence accreditation, and some businesses are not accredited because they have not sought Comergence accreditation.

Is Trusted Mortgage Professional Seal new?

Yes. Prior to Comergence Compliance there was no existence of a watchdog entity that oversaw the Mortgage Lending industry at a national level. This contributed to what is now referred to as the “Mortgage Meltdown” or “Credit Crisis”.

What does the Trusted Mortgage Professional Seal mean?

Mortgage Lenders and brokers that apply to obtain the Trusted Mortgage Professional Seal have undergone a detailed review process and committed to abide by a set of ethical standards for marketplace conduct as well as ongoing background and compliance monitoring.

What are the Comergence standards against which businesses that request are evaluated?

The standards are a comprehensive set of background, compliance checks and fraud risk factors. Including being and remaining free from any government action that affects the reliability of the business, be and remain licensed and bonded, if required, and provide licensing and bonding information upon request of Comergence.

Does Comergence monitor Trusted Members for continuing compliance?

Yes. Every Trusted Mortgage Professional is monitored on an ongoing basis and must continue to meet the standard for their Status to remain active.

Does Comergence report only on its Trusted Members?

No. Comergence issues reports on Trusted Members and non reviewed businesses alike. We, as a matter of policy do not endorse or recommend any business, product or service. We apply the same standards to reporting on businesses, regardless of their Trusted Mortgage Professional status. Our reports may, however, note the fact of a business' trusted member status.

Because Trusted Mortgage Professional businesses must qualify for Trusted Member status by adhering to certain standards, a business with a bad report will be disqualified for Trusted Member status. However, this does NOT mean that a business that is not a Trusted Member has a bad report or would not qualify for Trusted Member business status.

Why can't Comergence stop rip-offs and scams?

Although we do not have legal and policing powers, we provide information about marketplace fraud through scam reports to the public, media releases and alerts.

Comergence works closely with local, state and federal law enforcement agencies, providing them with valuable information on potentially fraudulent activities. The public can help to stop rip-offs and scams by contacting us before they do business with an unknown company and by notifying us of a potential scam.
